WHY WE BUILT VURT
It started with a number.
Not a big number. Just the kind that sits in your stomach, the difference between what your money was worth before you sent it, and what it was worth when it arrived.
In 2021, we were doing what millions of young Africans were doing. Working hard. Chasing clients across borders. Navigating a system that felt designed for everyone except us.
Then one day everything changed.
We realised the money we had worked so hard to earn was quietly disappearing through poor exchange rates, hidden fees, and a system that expected us to accept whatever was left.
We did the work. We earned every naira, every dollar. Yet somewhere between our effort and our account, someone else decided what our money was worth.
So we asked ourselves one question:
If this happened to us, how many people are losing even more?
The answer was everywhere. A whole continent of talented people quietly absorbing a tax on their ambition that nobody had officially imposed but everyone was paying.
We couldn't unknow that.
That's when we realised something important: currency gets its value from people, not banks. In simpler terms, the price of every currency or commodity depends heavily on what people are willing to pay for it. Vurt is our attempt to level the playing field for everyone.
Nobody had built that marketplace for Africa.
So we built Vurt.
